Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the Mountain Hug Project?
The Mountain Hug Project is an Estes Park Colorado‑based charitable nonprofit that delivers handmade items to individuals who need comfort, warmth, and connection. Each quilt is created by volunteer quilters and makers who want their craft to make a meaningful difference.
Who receives the handmade item?
Quilts and handmade items are gifted to organizations that work with people experiencing medical hardship, personal crisis, or significant life challenges. We work with community partners, care teams, and local organizations to ensure each quilt reaches someone who truly needs a “hug” of support.
How can I receive a handmade item?
Please reach out to us via our contact form. We will reach out to you to discuss.
What sizes do you accept?
We accept baby and lap-sized quilts generally ranging from 30" x 40" up to 40" × 50". These sizes are the most versatile for recipients ranging from newborns to adults. Please reference the Quilter and Makers site for more details.
Are there preferred materials or patterns?
We welcome all quilted, knitted, and crocheted styles. Quilts should be made with quality cotton blended fabrics, durable stitching, and soft batting. Yarns should also be durable and soft to the touch. Makers often choose cheerful, calming, or nature‑inspired designs, but any pattern created with care is appreciated. Please reference the Quilter and Makers site for more details.
Can I donate other handmade items?
Yes. We gladly accept quilted, knitted, or crocheted blankets, shawls, and comfort items. If you’re unsure whether your handmade item is a good fit, reach out as we’re happy to guide you.
Where do I ship or drop off donations?
You may ship your handmade item to our Estes Park, Colorado location or arrange a local drop‑off. Please refer to the Quilter and Markers site where you can fill out a donation card.
Is my donation tax‑deductible?
Yes. The Mountain Hug Project is a registered charitable nonprofit, and both quilt donations and monetary contributions are tax‑deductible. We provide acknowledgment letters for your records.
Do you accept monetary donations?
Absolutely. Financial contributions help us cover batting, labels, shipping, and outreach. You can donate securely through our Donate page.
How are quilts and handmade items distributed?
Donated items are delivered through partner organizations, care teams, and direct referrals. Each quilt is matched thoughtfully to a recipient to ensure it provides comfort during a difficult time.
Can I volunteer if I’m not a quilter?
Yes. We welcome volunteers for photography, writing notes, organizing materials, assisting with events, and helping with outreach. Your time and talents are always appreciated.
Do you provide labels or tags for quilts?
Not at this time. We hope to in the near future. Until then, please feel free to use your own to sew onto handmade items. THIS IS NOT MANDATORY, although a nice touch. These labels help recipients know their quilt was handmade with care and gifted through The Mountain Hug Project.
Will I be notified when my handmade item is delivered?
While we cannot guarantee individual updates for every quilt, we regularly share stories, photos, and milestone updates on our website and social channels so makers can see the impact of their work.
How do I join your mailing list?
You can sign up directly through the mailing list link in our website footer. We send occasional updates with distribution updates, sizing guidelines, project needs, and upcoming opportunities to contribute.
